To get married in Goa the following documents are needed:
- Passport Copies of the bride and the groom

- No impediment certificate from the local registrar office stating that there exists no legal impediments what so ever for the wedding to take place. A letter from the embassy stating the same will also do.
- Birth certificates of both the parties with parents names clearly mentioned on them
- 4 witnesses from the same country as of the bride and the groom.
- Residence Certificates of both the parties.
Once the court order is obtained, both the groom and the bride appear before the Civil Registrar for the first signature. There has to be a gap of two Sundays before the second signature can be done. The registrar office affixes a Public Notice, inviting objections if any, before these 2 Sundays pass. Also a public notice has to be issued in the popular local newspaper informing about the two parties intention to unite in holy matrimony. Any person having objections to the same can hence complain. This is known as the EDITAL PERIOD.
Special Exceptions
In case both the parties can not stay for 2 Sundays, the Edital Period can be waived off by producing the flight tickets. If the Edital Period is waived off, the second signature is done on the same day or the next day and a provisional wedding certificated is issued to the parties. Original certificates can be obtained after 30 days which will be couriered to the couple. It generally takes 4-5 working days to complete these formalities.
